چکیده

We have searched for correlations between the pointing directions of ultrahigh energy cosmic rays in the data of the High Resolution Fly’s Eye (HiRes) collaboration, and local large scale structure. The HiRes stereo data set (the same used to search for AGN correlations [1]) was used in the search, and the 2 Micron All-Sky Redshift Survey (2MRS) was used to determine the density of galaxies in right ascension and declination. The two parameters of the search were the minimum energy of the cosmic rays and the typical mean magnetic deflection angle. Previous searches for extragalactic anisotropy used minimum energies of 10, 40, and 57 EeV. We made those energies, plus choosing to quote a 95% confidence level (if no correlations were found), a priori choices of search parameters, and examined deflection angles from 1 to 15 degrees. The results of the search will be reported.

30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Search for Intermediate-Scale Anisotropy by the HiRes Experiment

The HiRes collaboration has searched for intermediate-scale anisotropy of ultrahigh energy cosmic rays in two ways: first a search for variation with declination of the flux of cosmic rays, and second in their arrival directions. The data of the HiRes-II detector was used in the search.

Ev with Hires Stereo

We present the results of a search for small-scale anisotropy in the distribution of arrival directions of cosmic rays above 10 19 eV measured in stereo by the High Resolution Fly's Eye (HiRes) experiment. Performing an autocorrelation scan in energy and angular separation, we find that the strongest correlation signal in the HiRes stereo data set recorded between December 1999 and January 2004...

30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE An Alternative Method to Finding Patterns in HiRes Stereo Data

In this paper, Ultra High Energy Cosmic Ray (UHECR) data observed by the HiRes fluorescence detector in stereo mode is analyzed to search for events in the sky with an arrival direction lying on a great circle. Such a structure is known as an arc structure. An arc structure is expected when the charged cosmic rays pass through the galactic magnetic field. The arcs searched for could represent a...

Search for cross-correlations of ultra–high-energy cosmic rays with BL Lacertae objects

The High Resolution Fly’s Eye (HiRes) experiment is a stereo air fluorescence detector for the study of cosmic rays with energies above 5×10 eV. Arrival directions of cosmic rays observed in stereo can be resolved with a typical uncertainty on the order of 0.5◦, making the experiment ideal for small-scale anisotropy studies. Here we present the results of searches for correlation with astronomi...

Angular Correlation Estimates for Ultrahigh Energy Cosmic Rays

Identifying the sources of ultrahigh energy cosmic rays remains one of the major challenges in astrophysics. If these cosmic rays are not too severely deflected by magnetic fields while in transit, then their arrival directions will provide crucial information about their origins. The High Resolution Fly’s Eye (HiRes) experiment, consisting of two air fluorescence detector sites, has been makin...
